Day in the Life of a Occupational Health Nurse Advisor

It’s been a year since the launch of Survivex Medical and the clinical team have been busy. Our experienced health professionals have seen 2000 patients through their clinic since May 2016. Hilary Mouat, our Occupational Health Nurse Advisor, gives an insight of a typical day in the Survivex Medical suite.

Morning

With a leisurely drive to work from Peterculter to Survivex, thanks to the new bypass and plenty of parking space available I arrive relaxed and in plenty time to start my first appointment at 8:30am.

We complete a variety of medicals such as OGUK Medicals and Offshore Catering Medicals throughout the day for our external clients as well as the delegates attending our offshore safety training courses. With the recent introduction of our Travel Health Clinic, our appointment diary is well filled. Survivex is a busy training centre and can see as many as 200 delegates a day, so the medical suite is always busy and never boring!

Lunchtime

Lunch and break times are our “hot spots” as that is when we see most of our delegates on course to complete their medicals so generally lunch for me and my team is 1 o’clock. This is a welcomed break from a busy morning rewarded with a lovely meal in the Survivex canteen from our in-house chef Barry.

Afternoon

The advantage to our late lunch is that the afternoon just flies by with the remaining medical or vaccination appointments. The afternoon can be varied, one minute I could be administering travel vaccinations and next I could be carrying out a Chester Step Test. We have many delegates who attend medicals from all around the world and I get to meet some very interesting people. The Survivex Medical Suite is a great place to work, with a variety of services there is never dull moment and there is a great team spirit.

Evening

Our clinic closes at 5pm every day and then it’s time for me to head home. The short commute home for me means I have plenty of leisure time in the evening to do what I enjoy most, spending time with my family and friends.

I have been a nurse for over 25 years and specialising in Occupational Health in the last 16 years. Since joining the Survivex Medical team when it was formed in May 2016, we have established a great medical team offering the highest level of medical services and care to ensure businesses have a happy, healthy workforce.
