Shell Girls in Energy Annual Visit

Survivex delighted to once again host the Shell GIE programme...

On Friday 28th June the girls descended upon the Aberdeen based training centre to experience a morning of live demonstrations and practical participation designed to give a taster of life within the Energy Sector.

Chris Bews - Business Development Manger at Survivex said;

“Survivex have been proud to support the Shell Girls in Energy programme since 2014 and it’s great to see the initiative go from strength to strength. It’s fantastic to see such engagement from those that represent the future of our industry. We hope through continued support from the diverse range of companies supporting Shell GIE we can demonstrate what an exciting and rewarding industry the Energy Sector is to pursue a career in.

By giving these young people a taster of the kind of training they can expect in the future we hope to help in giving them the confidence to pursue their career in the energy industry.”

The girls from Shell were given a run-through of the types of training that they could be required to undertake should they choose to pursue a career in the energy industries.

Our Offshore Survival, Firefighting and Industrial Skills departments all pitched in to demonstrate the full spectrum of training that make the UKCS one of the safest oil producing regions in the world.

John Raine - External Relations for Shell U.K. Limited said;

“Shell has a vital role to play in inspiring the next generation of engineers and scientists. We need to develop and recruit the right people to meet one of the biggest challenges facing the world right now: Delivering affordable and sustainable energy, while reducing carbon emissions.

We know the UK is facing a major shortage of STEM skills. Research tells us that we need to double the number of people going into engineering and critically we need to encourage more women to consider a career in the energy industry – who are traditionally under-represented.

Working with Survivex we hope we can address some of the barriers facing young women as they consider a career in the Energy Industry.”

We look forward to supporting this essential programme for years to come!
