Survivex answer frequently asked questions during COVID-19 lockdown


Survivex hopes all our customers, partners and suppliers are keeping safe and well during lockdown.

Although our training centres are currently closed, we are still here for our clients and any queries you might have during this lockdown period.

Here’s the most common questions we are being asked:

Q: What’s happening with OPITO certificate extensions?

A: OPITO is currently extending certificate expiries by two months. However, these extensions are not automatic and you’ll need to apply via the OPITO website.  Here’s the links:

Q: My GWO certificate is about to expire, what can I do? 

A: As a temporary measure until 1st June, GWO has agreed to allow those requiring refresher training the option to take the planned refresher training up to 60 days after expiry. However, it remains an employer’s prerogative to make decisions on whether they require valid training or will give exemption.

Q: What can I do if my IWCF Certificate is due to expire?

A: For all IWCF Well Control Certificates expiring between 17 February 2020 – 31st May 2020 IWCF will extend the expiry date of those certificates by 90 days from the date of expiry.

Candidates need to complete a short form to submit their certification extension request.

IWCF will review this decision on 1st May 2020 for how this will be controlled going forward.

Q: When do you expect to reopen?

A: We are closely monitoring the situation and will reopen when the Government’s advice suggests it is safe to do so. Currently we are taking bookings for courses scheduled week commencing 11th May and onwards but please be aware these dates may change if the UK remains in full lockdown.

Q: Can I join a waiting list to ensure I’m on the first scheduled courses?

A: When we re-open we are anticipating high demand for courses. To ensure we deliver in line with customer needs, we are compiling a customer database to assess course requirements and preferential course dates. Email us to register your requirements.

Q: How quickly can I do my BOSIET? 

A: As soon as it is safe to do so, we’ll be delivering BOSIET courses. However, for those who want to get a head start, do you know we now offer the Digtial BOSIET (D-BOSIET)? This allows you to complete the theory part of the BOSIET course remotely in your own time from wherever it suits you.

Once you’ve passed the digital section of the course, you’ll just need to complete one day of practical training at one of our training centres.

Q: If I book onto a course now but I have to cancel what will happen?

A: Both AIS Training and Survivex have relaxed cancellation and date-change policies to give you peace of mind. If something happens either to your own health, your travel plans or your employer’s policy relating to COVID-19, you will be able to cancel your course without penalty or reschedule your training at any time. You must still notify us as soon as possible if you wish to cancel or reschedule your booking. As a minimum this must be before your course starts.

Q: How can you assure my safety once you reopen?

A: When we do reopen, we will be going above and beyond to ensure your safety. Classes will have restricted numbers to ensure we can implement the two metre social distancing guidelines.

We will also have strict hygiene procedures in place including:

  • Liquid gels available at the entrances to all our buildings and posters in all areas of the facility to remind delegates to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds.
  • Dedicated new pens for each delegate
  • Increased sanitisation rotations of our equipment
