AIS Survivex delivers onboard training for Buzzard fire team

The fire team working onboard the CNOOC International-operated Buzzard asset have been trained to use a new working at height rescue system thanks to AIS Survivex.

Located about 100 kilometres offshore north east of Aberdeen, Buzzard is one of the UK’s highest-producing fields and helps provide safe and secure energy for the UK.

AIS Survivex instructor, Nigel Strachan recently went onboard Buzzard to deliver familiarisation training for the fire team on a new working at height rescue system being implemented on the asset. This system will enable casualties to be rescued from height should the situation arise.

Nigel was awarded a focussed recognition card (FRC) following the training – these cards are issued to those who demonstrate actions and behaviours which align with CNOOC International’s cultural beliefs. Nigel’s work was recognised for ‘safety first’ and ‘being the best’.

Comments on the card included:

“Over one weekend, Nigel carried out familiarisation training with fire team personnel onboard Buzzard with our new working at height rescue system. Nigel conducted several sessions for both day and nightshift personnel, to ensure that all members of the fire team received the training, which was very thorough, well delivered and of great benefit to the team.

In addition to the training, Nigel visited various work sites and areas of the platform where rescue at height might be required, and provided SME advice on different options and rescue methods for likely scenarios. This advice, along with the training, has been very well received and adds significant value to our ability to rescue casualties from height, should the situation arise.”

Chris Redgrave, Business Development Manager for Onboard Training at AIS Survivex said:

“Customer service excellence is our number one priority so I’m over the moon to hear that our incredible instructor, Nigel received an FRC for his work onboard Buzzard.

“When onboard in their own working environment, people tend to be very engaged with the training and assessment process meaning they are extremely focussed. Conducting training for high-risk activities such as working at height where they take place on the jobsite really helps boost skills retention, while instilling a strong safety-first culture onboard the asset.

I would like to thank CNOOC International for trusting AIS Survivex with this safety-critical training.”
