Industry Announce Standard for New OPITO UK Offshore Survival Training with CA-EBS

O&GUK, SCiS, OPITO, IADC and the Trade Unions have agreed a joint industry statement on the implementation of a new UK BOSIET / UK FOET with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) Training standard, outlined below:

Following extensive engagement with industry, regulators, training providers and workforce representatives, the UK interim BOSIET/FOET/HUET Compressed Air – Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) standard will be introduced across the UK on February 15th, 2016.

It will involve dry CA-EBS training with in-water HUET breath hold.

Developed as a result of the Civil Aviation Authority Report (CAP1145) which contained a series of actions and recommendations to improve offshore helicopter safety,  the new Standards provide the offshore workforce with the knowledge and understanding of the hazards and properties of the system and appropriate emergency response actions to take.

In the longer term, all industry stakeholders in the UK will work towards providing in-water training exercises using CA-EBS equipment.
