What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m a big Aberdeen fan and attend as many home and away matches as I can with my eldest son, we are both season ticket holders. When I’m not at football matches I spend the rest of my home time with my daughter, second son and wife. We like to have fun days out, swimming, going for walks, going to the cinema

My official start time is 07:45hrs but I always arrive 15/20 minutes prior to check over the diary and make any changes to staff/courses and assess if there are any problems or last-minute bookings. I chair a morning meeting at 07:45hrs with my team of 8 fire instructors, this is a brief chat usually lasting 5-10 minutes where I go over the day ahead and ensure all instructors are happy with the days planned courses and any maintenance duties that need addressed.
My main role throughout the day is managing the fire departments operational requirements; ensuring all activities comply with Survivex safe systems of work and all training is delivered to OPITO approved standards – this includes mentoring staff and carrying out internal audits to ensure all training is delivered to the highest possible standard. Additional day-to-day duties might include ensuring all inspections and maintenance duties are fulfilled, or liaising with sales team regarding client requests for bespoke training options.
What would you say is your main challenge as Fire Team Leader?
Ensuring all operational requirements are constantly kept up to date.
Any positives/ negatives of being Fire Team Leader?
I have to say the main positive is working with my brilliant team of instructors. And the negatives? I honestly can’t think of anything!
What do you find most rewarding about your job?
I like to see the delegates leave the centre knowing they have been trained to a high standard and will be able to deal with an emergency offshore safely should the need ever arise.
