UCT boosts geographical reach and expands breadth of courses

Leading utilities training provider and sister company, Utility and Construction Training (UCT), part of 3t Energy Group, is investing a six-figure-sum into new courses, skills and equipment across its network of UK training centres.

This additional investment will be ploughed into new facilities and equipment at UCT’s London, Manchester, and Glasgow sites to deliver several additional safety critical training courses including confined space entry, CCNSG Safety Passport and Face Fit testing. It will also create up to ten new instructor jobs as a result of the investment.

The investment will see UCT broaden its training portfolio and provide a fully integrated skills solution for clients. It follows UCT’s acquisition last November by our parent company, 3t Energy Group, in a multi-million-pound deal to expand and grow the Group’s training offering which includes our training centres located in Aberdeen, Montrose and Newcastle.

UCT is one of only a handful of providers to offer training across the entire utility sector and is unique in delivering apprenticeships to new utility industry entrants.

Its clients include major utility and power organisations across the UK such as SGN, SSE and Cadent.

The new facilities include a custom-built, portable training unit approved by both the ECITB and City and Guilds, which can be transported to any location quickly and easily deliver in-demand industry training onsite.

This facility comes fully-fitted with internal training spaces designed for the delivery of safe operations in confined space and working at height and can be deployed to any location via a trailer.

Both working at height and working in confined spaces are high-risk activities. Working at height is the leading cause of death in the workplace, accordingly to the HSE, and working in confined spaces kills around 15 people every year across a range of industries.

As well as offering a one-stop-shop for training for UCT’s existing clients, the addition of these new courses will provide more choice and more training locations for clients of both UCT and AIS Survivex, with broader access to courses that span the wider energy sector.

Martin Hottass, Corporate Development Director at 3t Energy Group, said:

“This investment is fantastic news for 3t Energy Group’s entire client-base. It marks the next step for us in developing a fully integrated, broad training offering which encompasses the wider energy market and supports companies in the UK’s decarbonisation roadmap through the reskilling and upskilling of personnel.”
